I see the sad girl with her smile on,
I watch the guy walking with his shirt torn,
I see the limping cow with the twisted horn,
It’s the rule ain’t it? Hold the flower with the thorn..
Where none is black and white, all is grey
Where birds may fly but, eagles will prey
Where humor is often used as a defense,
It’s Life as we know it through a smudged up lens
If ends falter, do means hold good?
And all this is really happening ‘cause it should?
If Truth is a lie and lie is the only truth
Then none of it seems to make any sense..
‘Cause there are no feelings, it’s all just pretence.

The (F)Art of Comedies
It's a beautiful feeling,ain't it?
The elation and contentment one feels after having watched a good comedy.Light hearted, wholesome entertainment at it's best :)
It's a getaway from the humdrum of life, the monotony..the banality of it all.
They don't call it the best medicine for nothing you know!
But humor exists in varied forms in nature..crass,indirect,good natured, black,or downright vulgar etc..etc..appealing to the masses and the classes alike. Not to forget,it is one of the chief things one looks for in their gf/bf..(or that's what they say) a 'good' sense of humor. lol, whatever is that supposed to mean anyway!
Here I go veering of the topic I intended to discuss :D I'd probably blame it on my attention span.So here we go..
Remember the old day comedies our hindi film industry had..the likes of golmaal, chupke chupke, jaane bhi do yaaron.Classics in their own right! They all had some message to give albeit through a medium of their own. Whether it be the plight of the common man,or the deep rooted misconceptions of our society.
It's not like those kinds of movies aren't made anymore..case in point, hera pheri..
This one is a wonderful story etched around the common man problem..filled worth so many wonderful characters..and actors enacting the same.
There is always one quirk in such things that stands out..Take Tom and Jerry for instance,
the fact that Tom never feels anything even when jerry is having the time of his life wrecking it up in some way or the other.
Hera pheri had Babu Rao searching around for his spectacles on the ground thinking of the various items spread around to be his glasses :D (candle holder, guns!!lol)
Hilarious to say the least!
Now onto some facts, did you know that Hera Pheri wasn't a superhit at the box office?
In fact it was an above average grosser. Can't say the same for hera pheri 2 (phir hera pheri) can we! Inspite of it's insipid script, and unimaginative dialogues..it became a hit because it enjoyed brand value.
Part of the reason why most sequels turn out to be duds..(Matrix,rush hour,etc..) though exceptions like (the bourne series are always there),other reason being the narrowness that writers find themselves restricted to..with respect to plot,characters,story...that causes the degradation.
But that certainly doesn't validate the churning out of low grade slapstick comedies by the film industry..everybody thinks building a plot around some money making scheme, putting in loads of characters..adding to the mahyem and confusion will help their cause.
One thing that has undergone a radical change is the advertising involved with movies..
pre release, actors turn up at every second reality show to promote their movies.I support the advertising innovations but everybody is forgetting one key element in all the glamour..SCRIPT!
Where are the good stories?the original direct-from-the-heart type renditions??
I am okay with the leave-your-brains-behind genre but come on!!God gave us a brain so that we could use it!So why don't the makers start doing it instead of just thinking of new ways to earn shit loads of money!!
Ok,signing off now..gotta go grab tickets for de dana dan..(HEY!I didn't say I was boycotting them) :D
Peace out!

How rap and hip hop is same as Punjabi music :)
I haven't met a person who doesn't like music..and there is a very good reason for that.
Music in whichever form it may be, appeals to the aesthetic sense in us.It acts as a soother to the soul. The humdrum and monotony of life is made tolerable by it's existence.
Anyway, this blog of mine isn't about how great music is..it is about the ethnic diversity and yet about the common thread that runs across all of mankind.
Everybody who has listened to rap and hip hop music would agree that most of(read about 95%) their songs are about how beautiful a girl is..how wonderful she looks and how falling in love or going out with her is the greatest thing that happened to them.To put it in Pablo Francesco's words..(check out his stand up comedy act on youtube..it's hilarious to say the least)..Girl you are smooth, soft and silky..and so FIIINE!! sum it up.
Or the typical sad songs covering all forms of love from unfulfilled to unrequited.
Coming back to my own country,India..we have an entirely different group of gentlemen doing something which is precisely the same thing..Punjabi music. :)
Crooning to their beloved..how it's great to be in love,or how ethereal she looks etc..
Punjabi music has it's share of sad songs too...
The comparison doesn't end here..
Rap music essentially consists of english words shortened for effect(to make 'em rhyme or sound cool).Ever wondered how the entire punjabi language is just a shortened version of hindi??
:) ..thought so..
Hence we can say that punjabi music is hindi rap :D
I conclude by reminding you that there is no chance of imitation here..(I am obviously not including the sorry state of remixes and lift offs of particular songs here)
It is just a different commonness. :)

LIFE = GYM (the analogy)
My suggestion to all dear readers is...all those who are either interested in general theories about life or believe in leading a fit and healthy life by exercising, kindly proceed and as for the rest,sorry..nothing of interest for you here..maybe in the next blog that I write :)
I sit and wonder(one usually does this when one has a lot of idle time),
the equivalence relationship between a gym and one's life....
When we go to a gym,the reason for going can differ for different people.
some go so that they can impress the opposite sex, some go to stay fit, some go to reduce that excess flab..to look presentable...etc...
Same destination,different paths....
In life, one is bound to face obstacles which hamper the growth process(speaking on strictly individual terms). Similiarly, due to our busy lives..often, something is bound to make us deviate from our strict regime..which has helped us be in the physical shape we are ,presently.
And once we stop going to the gym,the body suffers..the results go down...
and we slowly but surely resume our previous miserable physical state(or somewhat similiar)
Life is just like that...
We face certain obstacles which make us feel down, defeated, downright sad...but when the 'busy' period is over...
We begin again,start afresh..
it's difficult in the beginning..
the recurring pains...of muscles working out...
tough physical exercises..strenuous stuff.
But if we persist...we find, that it doesn't take as much(as it did the first time) to regain the same level of fitness..
In life, all our experiences teach us something..
even though they seem to teach nothing of major consequence
but what we fail to realise is that each provides valuable knowledge for the future...and those who acquire that knowledge and learn from it, succeed in life.
Now this starting workouts again with respect to life would represent
our getting up,recovering from the losses(a term used to provide generality)
and beginning again...the hope...the faith..the persistence
all important ingredients to a successful and happy life.
I guess nature has a lesson in this for all of us.
I believe nature, like a wise mother gives it's children latent advice and hopes that they read between the lines and read the message that has been lying around for quite sometime.
:)

THE POOR MAGICIAN
Hi everyone,
just thought I'd start by sharing this poem of mine which a lot of us can relate to..
it's titled 'The Poor Magician'
I believe poem writing is a form of expressing your thoughts in a beautiful way..like painting a scenery, and shrouding it with a touch of clouds..
Here's my attempt at it-
comments and views are invited...
THE POOR MAGICIAN
The magician makes a grand entry,
twirling his hat and bowing to the crowd,
hiding what could only be..
the beating of his heart so loud
people applaud in anticipation,
some in hope and some in despair..
silence that could engulf the night alive,
and eyes that couldn't for a moment forget to stare
the act was performed..the attention held,
the dilettante had come through,
the anxiety had been dispelled..
but would he do it again?
or would he be satisfied with just a few..
questions are many and answers are none,
he certainly doesn't do it anymore for fun,
the sighs creep in and so do the drooping shoulders,
weight bears him down like a group of boulders
but he has to live and it has to survive,
cos no matter the laughs and the cries,
many destinies he has to mend,
so he has got to have a trick up his sleeve,
cos that's all that matters in the end.
